Are Apple Laptops and Computers Worth it?

I have two apple products, a laptop and a computer. The laptop was like 1199 dollars and its screen is super small and it dosent even have a disk port (had to buy and extension). My Apple Computer was like 2499 dollars, it constantly freezes and most of the games I like to play i cant play on them. But they cant get viruses. Are they worth all of the money?

Are they worth the money? As it happens, there has been research carried out since the eighties that suggest Apples are actually CHEAPER to own than windows. This is because, despite the higher purchase price, all other costs are lower: fewer repair bills, less additional software needed, and less support.

There are some people that would suggest you can buy a cheaper computer. They are absolutely right, however, an analogy with cars may be appropriate. You can buy a small Ford for much less than you can buy a Merc, BMW, or Volvo. Which one of these four brands will give you the most trouble if you thrash it from one side of the continent to the other, which car will you be least comfortable driving, and which will have the lowest re-sale value when it’s done 100,000 miles?

If you are having trouble with your Apple then you need to get in touch with Apple, or use the forums. My own experience of both Windows and Mac machines is that the Windows machines give me much, much, more trouble.

While in New York, I paid a visit to a glamorous downtown computer shop in the hope of being tempted. Although I have a laptop that works perfectly well, I wanted an excuse to buy a new one, especially as computers are much cheaper in America than they are in Britain.

With my friend, Mike, a patriotic believer in the American way of commerce, I approached one of those knowledgeable and personable young salesmen that Macintosh employs to encourage customers to part with their money.

“What kind of computer do you have?” asked the salesman. “A PowerBook G4,” I replied. “A PowerBook G4?” exclaimed Mike, striking his forehead with his hand in mock horror; for he knew that I wanted to be persuaded to replace it. “That’s a good machine,” said the salesman. “How old is it?” “About five years,” I said. “Five years old!” shrieked Mike. But the salesman said: “I’d hang on to it if I were you. It should be good for a while yet.”

“Who on earth trained you to be a salesman?” asked an astonished Mike before we left the shop empty-handed; the young man just smiled. I am beginning to be worried about the future of the United States.

When you pay the apparently higher price up-front it should be considered an investment – less time wrestling with Windows problems or suspect hardware later.
